Julie Wallace; Owner/Instructor/Life Coach

Julie is dedicated to the instruction of yoga and continues to study and train with the objective of bringing a higher practice to her students. She received her core training from the prestigious Yoga Vidya Gurukul located in Nasik, India. She is trained extensively in Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, as well as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Having experienced the transformative power of yoga in her own life, she is a strong believer in yoga as an essential healing element for both mind and body. She is committed to bringing the gift of yoga to her students in an arena of comfort and safety. Julie is certified in Ma Yoga Prenatal Technique, an invigorating and empowering practice that includes instinctive positioning and movement in preparation for birth. She is also a Certified Life Coach offering guidance and expertise in the areas of Health and Wellness, Midlife Transitions, Relationships, and overall Personal Growth.

Kara Simard; Instructor

Kara is a certified yoga instructor through National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA) and is a Yoga Alliance Certified teacher through West Hartford Yoga. Being a truly versatile instructor, she is trained in WHY Power, Ma Prenatal Yoga, as well as the more gentle Hatha Yoga. She has completed extensive studies under teachers such as Desiree Rumbough, Todd Norian, Anne Greene, Heather Tiddens, and Cheri Clampett, and has completed The Organic Body through Tias Little, which focuses on the beneficial effect of yoga on the internal organs. Kara believes that yoga can activate the body and quiet the mind, and believes in the importance of creating a warm and cheerful yoga environment. Her love of yoga stems from her own personal growth and experience through yoga practice. As an instructor, she strives to expand the hearts and minds of her students so that they too can benefit from the power of yoga.

Bethany Wallace-Cameron; Instructor

Bethany was first introduced to yoga in 2004 while studying dance at The University of Colorado. She found that yoga helped ease the aches and pains of her dancer body and provided a quiet space in her hectic schedule. After only a few classes, she knew she had to share her love of yoga through teaching. Soon after, she began studying under the instruction of Barbara Ruzansky at West Hartford Yoga, where she currently continues her journey to practice, understand, and share yoga with others. Bethany is a committee member for WHY outreach, a program aligned to her passion of bringing yoga into underserved communities. She also volunteers yoga classes with the Connecticut State Veteran’s home in Rocky Hill.

Kevin Barnard; Instructor

After years struggling to manage the stresses of his daily work life, Kevin was encouraged to try an Intro To Power Yoga series at West Hartford Yoga and was hooked after his first class. Years later he is now a RYT-200 certified teacher in WHY Power Yoga. Through his teaching he hopes to share the calming gift of yoga with his students and provide a channel by which the stresses of the outside world are allowed to slip away.
Kevin teaches power as well as yin and gentle yoga. His classes focus on fundamentals of posture and alignment while integrating breath, movement, music and humor to enable students to challenge their edges in a safe and supported way. Kevin has studied with Sarah Powers, Ana Forrest, Heather Tiddens, Cheri Clampett, Tias Little, and Baron Baptiste.

Bloom Class Descriptions

Bloom Yoga classes are tailored for all levels of practitioners. We offer many posture options, focus on alignment, and breath awareness. All Classes are a rich blend of many yogic styles and flow through a balanced,
graceful posture series.

Bloom Level I – A great class for beginners, Bloom Level I is a Hatha Flow class with a slower-paced flow than Bloom Level II. Postures are broken down and demonstrated. Our instructors will lead the class at a gentle pace with an emphasis on alignment and breath. During this interactive class, students are encouraged to ask questions and explore the postures at their own comfort level.  Bloom Level I is a great place to start your Bloom Yoga journey

Bloom Level II – For students who are ready to take the next step in their practice, Bloom Level II exhilarates the body and mind with emphasis on movement, balance, and breath awareness. Our level II class offers a faster pace, along with a more challenging posture series, bringing students to a more advanced level of yoga. Some knowledge of posture alignment is recommended.

Bloom Sculpt – A total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Dumbbells are incorporated in this class as students are guided through a vigorous series of postures intended to reshape muscles and promote a cleansing sweat. This intense, but easy-to-follow program complements your regular yoga practice while pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights.

Blooming Bellies – A comprehensive Prenatal Yoga class to prepare women physically, mentally, and emotionally for the natural process of childbirth and motherhood. Classes increase strength, stamina, flexibility, as well as breath and body awareness while relieving the common discomforts often experienced during pregnancy. Each class concludes with 10 minutes of Yoga Nidra – a deeply transcendental form of relaxation with the potential to remove tensions and worries embedded deep in the mind concerning labor and delivery. Prenatal students should check with their physician before beginning this practice if they are experiencing any complications/concerns with their pregnancy. Blooming Bellies is a beautiful way to Bloom into motherhood.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons are available.

I was relatively new to yoga when I began at Bloom Yoga & Wellness. I was hoping to work on my flexibility and core strength. I gained that and much more including a love for yoga. Julie is a fabulous teacher who makes classes fun by always introducing new positions and music to her classes. She gears her classes to the level of her students and creates a supportive & encouraging atmosphere. Her vigorous sculpt classes are sensational – What a great workout. I think I am in the best shape of my life (at 48 years old) as a result. I highly recommend this studio to anyone looking to find the yogi within.‎

About Yoga

So what is Yoga, anyway?

5,000 years ago, in the heart of India, the practice of Yoga mysteriously emerged. The exact origins of Yoga have not been determined, though its evolution can be traced across thousands of years, developing throughout India and eventually spreading to the West in the late 1800s – unfolding into Yoga as we know it today.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj which means to yoke or to unite. This idea of yoking together, or uniting, refers to the integration of the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga allows this integration to occur through the use of physical postures and breath control.

Why practice yoga?

  • It completely detoxifies the body and boosts the immune system
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Slows the aging process
  • Increases energy
  • Reduces stress and promotes well-being
  • Improves strength, flexibility, balance and coordination
  • Improves the body’s ability to prevent disease by massaging internal organs
  • Improves muscle tone
  • Reduces insomnia and improves sleep
  • Improves memory and concentration
  • Lowers cholesterol levels
